Tiny Echo Mountain outside of Denver will be auctioned off this August. The owner, Jerry Petitt, bought Echo under similar circumstances in 2002 for $700,000 at auction, but after dropping millions into the ski area, Petitt has decided to call it quits.
The TSJ crew rode here during the 100 Days of Winter roadtrip. A few thoughts on the area for future buyers.
The Good: It’s the closest ski to Denver — only 35 miles away. Echo is super family friendly and not as jam packed as the “other resorts” up the road. The last owner added parking lots and a new base. Expanasion opportunites include doubling the vertical feet from 660 to 1,500 feet.
The Bad: Yeah, 660 vertical feet. Echo is too tiny for any serious riders who will simply drive the extra miles for the massive front range ski areas up Interstate-70.
