Listen, the Super Bowl (February 3, 2013) doesn’t even start until the evening which leaves plenty of time to gorge on chicken wings, vomit them back up, and then eat some more. It’s the 49ers against the Ravens, a game so boring that I almost fell asleep writing it, which is why I’ll be shredding that day.

And check this out, Liftopia is taking advantage of the empty slopes to offer a grip of discounted tickets. Listen to some of these samples:

Loveland, Colorado @ $29.99
Bolton Valley, VT @ $9.99

Platekill, NY @ $16.99
Shanty Creek, MI @ $28.00
Arizona Snowbowl, AZ @ $25.99

And that’s just to start. Click on over to Liftopia to check out dozens of Super Bowl steals on lift tickets.

California Residents Ski/Ride for Free All Winter at Eagle Point http://www.thesnowjunkies.com/2012/11/25/california-residents-skiride-for-free-all-winter-at-eagle-point/ http://www.thesnowjunkies.com/2012/11/25/california-residents-skiride-for-free-all-winter-at-eagle-point/#respond Sun, 25 Nov 2012 22:40:59 +0000 http://www.thesnowjunkies.com/?p=6075

File this under epic 2012/2013 lift ticket deals. Eagle Point Resort in Utah will offer free riding and skiing to every resident in California. No strings attached. All you need to provide is ID and an email address. The good news gets better — during every Thursday in January, anybody can ski for free at Eagle Point.

What we like about this deal (besides the freebie goodness) is that the CEO is completely up front about why they offer free skiing. They want you to come and spend money at all the other amenities of the resort. From the press release:

The resort owners cited the successful model of the Las Vegas casino resorts as an inspiration for the Free Days campaign. “By owning or controlling all of the restaurants, services and rental properties around the resort and maintaining low overhead, we have the same advantage as the Vegas resorts. We can give lift access away for free yet still achieve a sufficient yield from our guests on food & beverage sales, rentals, instruction, retail or condo stays.” said Gadbaw. “More importantly, the free admission spurs the first‐time visit. That is all we need because the vast majority of new guests fall in love with the place and go home to tell their friends and family.” Gadbaw added. “Within two years, we have transformed the resort from an abandoned ghost town into our guests’ new favorite resort in the region.” The resort hopes that the Free Days campaign will encourage first‐time guests to visit and continue building the resort’s fan base.

This program has been around for a while. It’s super simple. Drive your Toyota to the ski  area on the designated day. Ski for free. Here’s the rundown:

MT. SPOKANE – February 8
LOOKOUT PASS – February 15
49 DEGREES NORTH – February 22

The DRIVER of any TOYOTA who comes to the designated Ski the NW Rockies ski area on the designated day will receive a FREE lift ticket VALID FOR THAT DAY ONLY. No vouchers or passes are required.  Just drive your Toyota to the mountain on that day.

***THE CUSTOMER MUST BE DRIVING A TOYOTA OR SCION (Toyota’s youth division) To get the free lift ticket. Showing keys, registrations, or telling us you really have a Toyota at home DOES NOT WORK.   Toyota representatives will be in the parking lot at each resort for each event under a Toyota tent.  When the customer arrives in in their Toyota they receive a free lift ticket for that day.  It’s that simple.

If multiple people show up in a Toyota and they all show proof of ownership, ONLY THE DRIVER OF THE TOYOTA THAT IS THERE WILL RECEIVE THE FREE LIFT TICKET.

It’s back, a deal so stellar that it usually tops our “best-of” list each season. Purchase a 2012-2013 Descente Passport Jacket and get vouchers for ski areas across North America. We’ve been using this deal the past few seasons and have yet to be disappointed — plus it gives us the excuse to grab a new coat.

The Details:
Make sure to carefully read each individual voucher. There are usually blackout dates. Techinically, you’re supposed to wear the jacket while redeeming the vouchers.

The Mountain Collective Wants to Save You Money http://www.thesnowjunkies.com/2012/08/14/the-mountain-collective-wants-to-save-you-money/ http://www.thesnowjunkies.com/2012/08/14/the-mountain-collective-wants-to-save-you-money/#respond Wed, 15 Aug 2012 02:02:36 +0000 http://www.thesnowjunkies.com/?p=5945

A loose coalition of independent major ski mountains in the West have formed “The Mountain Collective” and are offering a big deal this winter. Alta, Aspen/Snowmass, Jackson Hole, and Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows are offering a $349 season pass for the 2012-2013 season. But before you snow junkies crack open your wallets, let’s take a closer look at what three and half bills gets you.

Firstly, this isn’t the Epic Pass from Vail. There’s no unlimited riding/skiing so this pass isn’t meant for locals. The Collective Pass gets you two free days at each of the above named ski hills. After that you’re looking at unlimited 50% discount on lift tickets and some discounts (up to 25%) on lodging.

Pricing: The Mountain Collective Pass is $349 for adults and $229 for children before November 19, 2012.

Our Verdict: It’s not entirely clear if The Collective counts Aspen/Snowmass and Squaw/Alpine Meadows as single destinations. That could put a serious dent into the free tickets. However, with the exception of Alpine Meadows, the above resorts offer ticket deals just about…never, so if you’re planning a trip, it’s worth looking into this if only for the 50% off tickets.
