5 Valentine’s Day Promos You’re Gonna Love

There’s no better place to spend Hallmark’s fake holiday than on the ski hill. We got five fun events listed below. There’s something for everyone — Singles, couples, and even one deal for those looking to take the plunge.

1. Mt Bachelor- Red Hot Love

2. Mt Hood Meadows Ski Resort- Chairway to Heaven

Mt. Hood Meadows presents “Chairway to Heaven” – speed dating on its Blue chairlift this Valentine’s Sunday. There will be two “singles” lines – one for women and one for men. In total randomness (which is an awesome way to start a relationship) the singles will be paired up on the Blue chairlift for a nine-minute ride to the top. The couple can decide if they want to take some runs together, go off to another chair lift, or split up and take another shot at a speed date. There is no additional cost for “Chairway to Heaven” other than a lift ticket or season pass.

The “Meadows Mingle” will also be presented near the bottom of the Blue chairlift to get everyone in the mood. There’ll be wine tasting, a fire pit, cheese and crackers and a drawing for fabulous prizes, all while listening to the velvet tones of Barry White, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross, Teddy Pendergrass and others. The Mingle and Chairway to Heaven events are scheduled from 11 AM – 5 PM.

3. Loveland Ski Area- Marry-Me and Ski-Free!

Participating couples that complete the pre-registration form will be eligible for the $59 “2 for 1” lift tickets the day of the event. Pre-registered couples will also be eligible to purchase 2-for-1 lunches for $11 including two $11 vouchers good at any Loveland Cafeteria outlet (alcohol excluded). Wedding cake, raffle tickets and beer coupons will be provided complimentary for pre-registered couples. Pre-registration ends on February 12, 2010.

4. Squaw Valley USA- Valentines Day Scavenger Hunt

The Where’s the Love Scavenger Hunt is the perfect way to explore Squaw Valley’s lush terrain and is open to all guests at Squaw Valley USA on Valentine’s Day. Skiers and riders who find a hidden magnetic heart can bring it to Plaza Bar for redemption of prizes such as lift tickets, ski and snowboard lessons, gift certificates to shops, bars and restaurants, and more. The hunt begins at 9 am when the lifts open and lasts until the last heart is found.

5. Mad River Glen Ski Area- St Valentine’s Day Kissing Special

Those who kiss each other in front of the ticket booth will get $14 tickets.

Next time you’re on Costco.com stocking up on novelty condoms, stop by the lift ticket department. All sorts of deals on two packs and three packs.

You got to put gas in your car. You got to get oil changes. Why not turn boring chores into sweet ticket deals? If you own a car, you can save money. Here are three ways to do it:

Phillips 66 in Colorado
This twofer deal from Phillips 66 is offered at four Colorado resorts — Winter Park, Copper Mountain, Monarch, and Powderhorn resort. Each resort has different blackout dates. Get more info on that here and get a list of participating gas stations right here.

Jiffy Lube in Socal
Southern California Jiffy Lubes are giving a 2 for 1 deal at Big Bear Mountain or Snow Summit. You have to get your oil changed by the end of January and the voucher is good until the end of season. Click here for more details.

Shell in the Northwest

Happy New Year Snow Junkies. It’s going to be a busy four months. Lots of snow left to ride and tons of deals popping up. Our gift to you in 2009 is 50 of our favorite lift ticket deals coming up in the next four months.

TOP 50 LIFT TICKET DEALS

1. Fly into Utah, get a free lift ticket for that day at the Canyons, Park City, or Deer Valley.

2. Diesel Days at Cranmore. Drive in your hybrid and get a free ticket on 1/24 and 3/21.

3. 29 days for $29 at Homewood during the rest of the season.

4. Ride locally. Almost every mountain offers a deal to local residents.

5. Get a face full of pow with the Pow Pow Platter. One ticket each to Winter Park, Copper, and Steamboat for $129.

6. Get $25 tickets for helping out schools in Truckee, California. Discounted tickets for Sugar Bowl, Northstar, Homewood, Squaw, and Alpine Meadows.

18. Move to New Hampshire and become a local. Okemo, Ascutney, Tenny, and Mt. Sunapee all hook you up when you flash a NH driver’s license.

42. Frequency Card at Big Sky. $130 dollars gets you seven free days at the end of the season…and it has been dumping out there all year.

43. Bromley hooks mothers up on 2/6 with a $15 ticket…or ski with two kids on Fridays for only $75.

44. More gas station hookups. Buy 10 gallons of gas at Phillips 66, get a 2 for 1 voucher good at Monarch, Copper, Powderhorn, or Winter Park.

45. The Weekend Xtender at Mt. Rose gives you Monday or Friday free when you pay for Saturday and Sunday. Or to break it down — $128 for three days.

Hooking Up with Liftopia.com

Good news! We just partnered up with Liftopia.com. These guys get some serious deals on tickets around the country. It was started by two Hotwire.com founders, so they obviously know their way around the Interwebs. They partnered up with a bunch of ski resorts to find the lowest deals. Buy your tickets online, pick them up when you get to the resort. Super easy, convenient, and deep discounts — it’s perfect for our lazy asses.

How can they do this? Let’s let them explain it (yeah, we really are lazy):

How does Liftopia get such great lift ticket deals? The truth is, resorts want you to ski or ride more often. Because you are willing to commit in advance to specific days, and know that you can’t cancel your booking once it is done with, Liftopia makes it safe for our resort partners to offer exclusive deals through our site. This way resorts can try to get more folks out on the slopes, without hurting their on-mountain prices. The term in the industry is “incremental purchases”, which essentially means that with better deals for specific days, you will want to ski or ride more often than you would otherwise.

Most Mountains for the Least Dollars

If you’re staying at a resort for more than a few days, it’s a good idea to look into their discount card program. Most ski hills have some sort of deal, like the X2 Card from Stratton. It costs $79, gets you one free day, and then $30 off midweek tickets. Consider that a one day ticket costs $79 and it’s a no brainer.

But our favorite discount cards are the ones that work at multiple resorts. Here are five deals that may have slipped under your radar. They give you free or discounted lift tickets, lodging deals, and free tune-ups. As always, it’s a good idea to doublecheck our findings — It’s New Year’s Eve and we started our celebration a little early.

The Ride and Ski New England Card
This card benefits the Childern’s Hospital in Dartmouth.  It comes with two free lift tickets to Cranmore and Waterville Valley and a mess of discounts to 22 resorts in the East.

Tahoe Card from Snowbomb
One of our favorite cards. It’s $39.99 for the next four days, then kicks up to the regular price of $80.  You get a free ticket to Donner Ranch, free rentals, free tune-ups, discounted tickets and lodging, and a one year subscription to Transworld Snowboarder or Skiing. Phew…

White Gold Card
For only $189 dollars you get a free lift ticket to 29 resorts in the Michigan area. The first person to ski all 29 gets a free card for next year. Roadtrip!

ALA Ski Card 2009
We stumbled across this card the other day on the Internet and had to post it. $130 for 11 tickets at resorts in New Mexico and Colorado. Only 1000 of these cards for sale from the American Lung Association of New Mexico. This one you’ll want to double check. The site doesn’t excactly scream legitimate ski deal.

Pow Pow Platter
It’s not a discount card, but it’s such a good deal we had to post it somewhere. A sampler of three mountains — Steamboat Springs, Copper, and Winter Park.  $99 for one lift ticket to each resort.  Plus, you get a to-go container gift box.  After Jan. 3, the price goes up to $129.
