My secret stash at Powderhorn

I say this ever year: The Colorado Gems Card is one of the best deals out there for skiers. It’s only $10 and gets you free lift tickets, discounts off full price, and lots of “Buy 1, Get 1 Free” (BOGO) offers. The full list is below along with blackout dates and restrictions.

With the exception of SolVista Basin, I’ve ridden all of the Colorado Gems and they are loads of fun. There’s plenty of treasure both at the ski resorts and with this discount card.

Opening Day Special: $25 Tickets to Steamboat http://www.thesnowjunkies.com/2011/11/22/opening-day-special-25-tickets-to-steamboat/ http://www.thesnowjunkies.com/2011/11/22/opening-day-special-25-tickets-to-steamboat/#respond Wed, 23 Nov 2011 00:13:21 +0000 http://www.thesnowjunkies.com/?p=5345
One of my top ten mountains in the world, Steamboat Springs, opens November 23, 2011 with their annual Scholarship Day. This means $25 tickets and stellar early season conditions as Steamboat has received some three feet of snow during November.

Steamboat is extremely stingy with lift ticket deals so this is just about the only chance you’ll have at scooping up a low price ticket.

If you’re tired of the same old snow forecast, you know, the one that always predicts a 30% of snow showers with 2-4 inches of accumulation, then you need to check out Joel Gratz’s predictions at Colorado Powder Forecast. (Funny side note: After writing that opening sentence, I just looked at the ‘About Page‘ on CPF after where Joel also bitches about the useless 30% forecast).

I’ve been test driving Joel’s predictions during Colorado’s snowy January and they have nailed it damn near every time. His site claims to be “Voted #1 Snow Forecast By My Dad.” Well, add us to list. I now plan my ski week according to CPF.

The site includes a detailed 5-day forecast for every Colorado ski area, commentary on the weather, and a tally of Joel’s accuracy.

Ski for Free at Loveland…All You Have to Do is Get Married http://www.thesnowjunkies.com/2011/02/13/ski-for-free-at-loveland-all-you-have-to-do-is-get-married/ http://www.thesnowjunkies.com/2011/02/13/ski-for-free-at-loveland-all-you-have-to-do-is-get-married/#respond Mon, 14 Feb 2011 01:30:05 +0000 http://www.thesnowjunkies.com/?p=5289 The Mountaintop Matrimony is an annual Valentine’s Day tradition at Loveland Pass, Colorado. Get dressed in your wedding appropriate attire, pick a mate for the rest of your life, and ride February 14th with a 2 for 1 coupon.

From the Loveland website:

The ceremony is a “mass wedding” done for all couples at the same time and lasts approximately 30 minutes. At the conclusion of the ceremony, all participants and guests will ski or snowboard down the mountain for a casual after party with cake, music and prizes. The runs leading back to the base area from this point are beginner and intermediate. The after party will start at 1:30pm at the base of Loveland Basin.

Guests to the wedding still have to pay the $59 daily lift ticket price. For those of you looking for a lot less commitment, head to Mad River Glen, Vermont where all you have to do is kiss your honey at the ticket booth window and each of you get $14 tickets. Wait, cheap tickets and I don’t have to get married. Phew.
