Rockies – The Snow Junkies http://www.thesnowjunkies.com Lodging, Gear, and Lift Ticket Deals for Skiers and Snowboarders Thu, 07 Mar 2013 01:32:38 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.7.7 Snow Junkies Roadtrip: Montana http://www.thesnowjunkies.com/2008/12/22/snowjunkies-roadtrip-montana/ http://www.thesnowjunkies.com/2008/12/22/snowjunkies-roadtrip-montana/#respond Tue, 23 Dec 2008 06:34:20 +0000 http://www.thesnowjunkies.com/?p=491 With gas prices hitting record lows, we embarked on our first Snow Junkies roadtrip of the season. We drove to Montana in time for some sweet storms…and some sweet deals. We posted our finds below, as well as how you can repeat our deals during the rest of the season. Happy roadtripping!

The Sparks Lunch: All the energy you need

The Sparks Lunch: All the energy you need

1st Stop –Big Sky Resort

One of the best early season deals at Big Sky the Frequent Sky Card. $130 gets you a week of free riding when the resort opens. It’s Montana, so you can usually count on two things — a decent base and zero crowds. This year was no different as we caught a nice twelve inch storm in the middle of our free ski week.

What we paid: $130 for seven full day adult tickets.

Repeat This Deal: There’s another free week at the end of the season and the card is still on sale during the season.  Click here for more information on the Frequent Sky Card.

Local’s Tip: The biggest (and cheapest) lunch in Big Sky is at the Wrap Shack located in the Meadow Village.  Just look for the giant monkey waving a burrito.

Mandatory Sidetrip – Chico Hot Springs

All that early season riding meant more than a few sore muscles so we headed to Chico Hot Springs outside of Yellowstone. For under fifty dollars, we grabbed a room in the historic lodge, which included access fees to the springs. A couple hours in the toasty warm mineral water, with a few trips to the poolside bar, and we were rested up for the next leg of our journey.

What we paid: $49 for a one room bed (bathroom is down the hall)

Repeat this deal: This amazing room deal is available year-round.

Local’s Tip: Olympia beers are usually a buck a can.

Just another day in the office

Just another day in the office

2nd StopRed Lodge Mountain

The locals call it Rock Dodge Mountain, but with a foot of snow, we didn’t find much to hit other than deep turns at Red Lodge. Two twelve inch storms in less than a week.  Told you Montana was ripping. Early season tickets were $39. We plunked down a little extra for a Grizzly Card, which gave us 2 for 1 tickets.

What we paid: $30 bucks for the Grizzly Card, then $78 for four adult day tickets.

Repeat this deal: The Grizzly Card is still on sale. Next 2 for 1 deals are Jan 2-17.

Local’s Tip: The Yodeler Motel is one of the cheapest places in Red Lodge, and walking distance to all the downtown bars and restaurants.  You might want to skip the hot tub.

Cheapest Riding in Utah http://www.thesnowjunkies.com/2006/01/11/cheapest-riding-in-utah/ http://www.thesnowjunkies.com/2006/01/11/cheapest-riding-in-utah/#respond Wed, 11 Jan 2006 07:13:53 +0000 http://www.thesnowjunkies.com/2006/01/11/cheapest-riding-in-utah/ So it’s a tiny hill and doesn’t have many trails. But it is in Utah (always good snow), $20 tix every day, and the whole mountain is lit up at night. Excellent joint for beginners.

An Airline That Doesn’t Suck http://www.thesnowjunkies.com/2005/12/11/144/ http://www.thesnowjunkies.com/2005/12/11/144/#respond Mon, 12 Dec 2005 06:03:03 +0000 http://www.thesnowjunkies.com/2005/12/11/144/ Have you ever seen those bizzaro Frontier commericals where the animals on the tail of the plane talk to each other? Well, this post has nothing to with that. Frontier airlines has a couple of kick ass deals going on with Copper and Winter Park that you should know about.

The first deal is 2 for 1 tickets when you flash your boarding pass at the counter. It’s good up through 2/28. Some of the rules:

♦ Both tickets must be used on the same day at the same resort.
♦ One ticket purchase per boarding pass receipt.
♦ Valid at Winter Park/Mary Jane or Copper Mountain Monday through Friday until April 17, 2006, excluding December 26-31, 2005 and March 13-24, 2006.
♦ Must show valid ID such as a driver’s license, birth certificate, or passport and this ID must match the name on the boarding pass receipt.

Next up is a 5,000 frequent flyer miles (1/3 of a free ticket) on Frontier when you log 15 days on your Rocky Mountain Super Pass. Finally, a rewards program for the dirtbag lifestyle. Hope to see more of these in the future. Click here for more info on that promo.
